Abortion on the high in Koforidua

Chiefs and people of Koforidua-Anlo in the Eastern region are alarmed at the number of young girls aborting their pregnancies in the community.

Starr FM’s regional correspondent Kojo Ansah reports that most young girls between the ages of 14 and 17 are either pregnant or have babies.

But a significant number of them are reportedly aborting their pregnancies.

Over the weekend an unidentified teenager dumped a six-month-old aborted fetus into a gutter.

Residents blame the worrying trend of abortion and teenage pregnancy on poverty and poor parenting.

Doris Aku Bansah, the assembly member for the area told Starr News in an interview that the level at which the teenagers are getting pregnant is upsetting.

“My advice I gave to the parents is that they have to watch their children carefully, especially the girls”.
