First Lady launches malaria prevention initiative

The First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has launched the ‘Safe Malaria Initiative’ which aims to get businesses deeply involved in the fight against malaria.

The initiative, which is the brain child of the John’s Hopkins University has become necessary following a 2014 report which revealed that businesses lose more than 25 million Ghana cedis due to malaria and its related issues.

The initiative is advocating the sale of treated bed nets alongside the free distribution by government. This, is to ensure that users can easily purchase the treated nets from private sales points when the old ones are destroyed.

It also calls for the inclusion of malaria topics in company safety meetings and publications as well as sponsorship of malaria themed advertisements.

Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, called on the business community to rise to the occasion.
