Heavy Rains Rip Off Roof Of Chamber Of Parliament, Halting Proceedings

The roof of the Chamber of Parliament was ripped off last night with some of its offices flooded due to the torrential rains that affected part of the capital.

Radio Ghana’s Parliamentary Correspondent, Dominic Hlordzi said as a result of the incident, the House had to adjourn proceedings to today.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said the condition of the roofing will not adversely affect Parliament’s work.

However, the Deputy Minority Whip Ibrahim Ahmed said that the decision of the Majority to continue business today after the leaking of the roof is at the risk of their lives.

In a related development, the Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, NADMO Brigadier General Vib-Zanziri paid a visit to Parliament after the rains to ascertain the situation.

The Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Daapaah was also in the house to assess the damage.
