practitioners have been advised to adopt innovative ways to remain relevant in the modern economic development of the world.
Mr John Wilson, president of the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP) gave the advice when he addressed the 6th graduation ceremony of the Institute in Accra.
“Let us not perpetuate the old HR practices but rather look for opportunities for improvement. Challenge existing policies and procedures armed with your new knowledge and skills, and add more value to your business,” Mr. Wilson stated.
Speaking on the theme: “Attracting and retaining top talents for competitive edge”, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Austin Gamey said as the business environment in Ghana was changing and managers and staff were faced with a complex situation posed by unprecedented technological change, there was the need to find and keep the right mix of people, skills and capabilities crucial to achieving business success.
He outlined seven ways in which an organisation could attract and retain top talents for competitive edge Communication methods; Working Environment; Management Styles; Organisational Reputation; Clear Career Progression; Training and Development, and Workplace Conflict Resolution.
Touching on communication methods to retain top talents in an organisation, Mr. Gamey recommended the use of emails, intranet and other ICT methods to communicate in organisations since they encouraged and appealed to all generations in the workforce.
He also advocated the holding of quarterly networking meetings for employees to attend and socialise with senior officials, including the CEO, towards understanding the employees needs and working style to enhance growth.
