Kintampo waterfalls in Brong Ahafo closed down indefinitely

The Kintampo waterfalls in the Brong Ahafo Region has been closed down indefinitely, following Sunday’s incident that claimed the lives of 19 students.

The Regional Minister Asuma Cheremeh explained that the closure is to enable thorough security and safety checks at the site.

He further commended officials of the District Assembly, the medical staff of the Kintampo General Hospital, officials of the Police, Army, Fire Service, REGSEC and the Youth of Kintampo for their swift response to the disaster.

The Minister added that government is extending assistance to the survivors and families of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Kyerema Ankomah, Nana Effah Guakuro says more than thirty trees fell on students at the Kintampo waterfalls as a result of the storm.

He said the town has never experienced such a tragic incident around the Waterfalls.

Speaking to GBC, Nana Guakuro blamed the accident on neglect of the site.

He indicated that it will take some time to clean up the waterfalls.
