If followers of greenfmonline.com may recall, on February 16, 2017, we reported that the Addokope – Ada basic school was in dire need of library books hence students appealing to benevolent organisations and cooperate Ghana for assistance. Barely two weeks after the publication, there was a turn around.
The Organisation for Child Fellowship (OCF) on Friday, February 24, 2017 donated books worth about GHC7000 to the Addokope – Ada Junior High School in the Ada – West Dstrict of the Greater – Accra Region. It wasn’t just an ordinary donation as it saw a short ceremony organized by the chief and people of Addokope to showcase their desire to receive the OCF in grand style. The occasion saw lots of dignitaries in attendance.
Prominent among them were the chief of the community, Nene Addo Tetteh 3, Mr. John Otu Amanortey, Monitoring and Supervision – Ada West District Education Directorate, Mr. Kotey Andrews Djani, Circuit Supervisor, Mr. William Ackweh, Basic Schools Coordinator – Ada West District Education Directorate, Mr. Emmaunel Aklie, Chairman, Parents, Teachers Association among others.
The genial President and Founder of the OCF, Garbriella Larfaque used the occasion to indicate what necessitated their move to reach out to the school in the first place. According to her, it has always been their desire to ensure that every child gets the best of education to enable them become useful adults in the future hence the gesture. ‘I love to assist the less – privileged in our society in terms of giving them materials and encouraging them through the gospel which go a long way to assuage their sufferings and by God’s grace, the OCF crew had demonstrated this over the years, she stated amid tears in her eyes. ‘When I first got wind of the condition of the library and visited Addokope eventually, I nearly broke simply because, for good 8yrs the students had nothing like library to boost their learning as well as research and the edifice there to an extent was nothing to write home about hence taking the step to renovate the place before the books were given to the school, Gabriella noted.
Garbriella Larfaque, again touched on the usefulness of books in the academic activities of students across the globe. ‘Every student needs books to carry out research works and also to broaden their intellectual discourse positively, please do make use of these books for me’, she said. Garbriella Larfaque admonished parents, teachers and the chief to ensure that their wards make proper use of the books in the library so that their impending Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be written and at the end of it all the candidates the Addokope Junior High School Shall present will excel. ‘I bless you all and leave you with the joy of God that surpasses all understanding, may the good lord protect you all’, She outlined.
It was the turn of the chief of Addokope, Nene Tetteh Addo 3 to also share his thoughts on the amiable president and founder of the OCF, Garbriella Larfaque and the crew for their wonderful gesture and the latter was quick to say that today brings him joy as the head of the Addokope community and also brings him memory of the good old days when he was a young chap without any form of assistance from a Non – Profit Oriented Organization like the OCF, he recalled. Kudos to your team players and it’s my belief that our children make good use of these books for the greater good of Addokope, Ada and Ghana at large, he said.
It didn’t end there, as the Headmaster of the Addokope Junior High School, Mr. W.K. Agamah also corroborated the statement by his superiors, Mr. John Otu Amanortey, Monitoring and Supervision – Ada West District Education Directorate, Mr. Kotey Andrews Djani, Circuit Supervisor, Mr. William Ackweh, Basic Schools Coordinator – Ada West District Education Directorate, Mr. Emmaunel Aklie, Chairman, Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) which was geared towards admonishing the students to avoid watching television and focus mainly on their academic work and for the teachers to be up and doing in ensuring that proper teaching and learning as well as a conducive learning environment is created so that collectively the academic performance of the school will be very positive, he accentuated.
Meanwhile, the students also shared their appreciation to the OCF for providing them with a library facility and books. ‘We thank the brain behind the OCF, Miss Gabriella Larfaque and her team for remembering us and promise to visit the library from time to time and will learn assiduously to achieve success in our impending Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)’, they indicated.
