Zero tolerance for athletes who cheat – IOC chief

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) says there will be no hiding place for those athletes who cheat. It is also set to lead a campaign to make the anti-doping process for athletes independent of sports governing bodies.

The IOC’s President Thomas Bach expressed his shock at the recent scandals engulfing athletics and told reporters that the committee has a clear policy of zero tolerance towards doping in sport.

“I could never have imagined that in an international Federation the leadership would obviously be soliciting bribes from athletes in order to manipulate sports competitions. This is unbelievable,” he said adding:

“There is a clear commitment, the IOC is about zero tolerance policy on doping. You will see medals being withdrawn, you will see athletes being sanctioned by the IAAF, you will see athletes and officials being excluded and you will see an action led by the IOC to make anti-doping testing independent from sports organisations.”
