Mr Amon Kotei has said that government’s decision to deploy 200 police officers as bodyguards for Members of Parliament will only be effective for the short term.
He said this in an interview on Green FM’s Anopa Bosuo following Interior Minister Ambrose Derry’s directive to the Inspector general of police (IGP) to immediately deploy 200 armed police officers to serve as body guards pending recent attacks on Members of parliament in the Country.
According to Amon Kotei, Deploying 200 armed police officials will only work for the short term but in any case government has to look for a long term solutions to security issues in the country.
“The security of this country is not only about Members of Parliament because Assembly men are attacked and killed, Pastors and even Journalists what do we do about them. A Pastor serves his congregation and if he dies he’s entire congregation is at a lost.” He said.
Expressing further, Mr. Kotei argued that rather than making hasty decision government should look into the history of security related issues in the country as this isn’t the first time a Member of Parliament has been attacked and killed.
“Government should capitalise on investigating and bringing to book the reasons behind these attacks and provide long-term Solutions to them.” He stressed.
