The Honourable Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency, who doubles as the
Commmunication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has confirmed that he has been tested for the Civid 19 virus today Wednesday, the 20th day of May.
This follows a directive issued by the speaker of Parliament yesterday, entreating all Members of Paarliament and the staff of the Parliamentary Service to go through mass testing. Thisaccording to him was a measure of preventing the spread of the virus in the august house.
“While there is no scientifically approved vaccine, we should adhere to all laid down hygiene protocols which are requisite for keeping us safe. In addition to observing the established protocols, I have directed on the authority of the Parliamentary Service Board, the Clerk of Parliament and the Parliament’s medical officers to liaise with appropriate institutions to immediately conduct testing of all honourable members and staff of the parliamentary service for COVID-19 and I request your co-operation in this enterprise.”
Speaking in an interview on Green Fm’s evening news bulletin, Mr. Buabeng Asamoah
confirmed that he has gone through the test as directed by the speaker.
When asked if the immediate family members of all the MP’s will also be tested, the M.P said “from the directives the speaker gave, he did not request family members to be tested so I cannot give an answer to it ”He was also asked if he concurs with those advocating for the names of MP’s who will test positive to be made public but Mr. Buabeng Asamoah was of the opinion that there is already an existing protocol that covid 19 patients go through and so Members of Parliament cannot be exceptions.
“There are already protocols when it comes to how covid 19 cases are treated. Therefore if an MP tests positive same protocol should be applied”
