No reopening date set for schools – Deputy Minister for Education

The Deputy Minister for Education – Yaw Osei Adutwum has dismissed claims made by the media on dates being set for schools’ reopening across the country.

Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh reportedly said schools in Ghana will not be reopening anytime soon as the fight against COVID-19 is still on.

“I can assure you that the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the universities are in close and regular contact with the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health,” Dr. Opoku-Prempeh said in a widely publicized letter to students in the country. Dr. Adutwum during an interview, said that no particular date has been set for the reopening.

He stated that a decision will be made on the subject and will be communicated to the entire country.

Reports on social media last week suggested that basic and secondary schools will resume in September after closing in March as part of measures to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
