The people’s manifesto by the NDC has created a lot of tension on the ruling government NPP as they claim the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has implemented their of the Free Senior High schools (SHS) policy in private schools when they regained power after the 2016 elections.
In an exclusive interview with Hon. Peter Yaw Kwaky-Ackah, the double track educational system will be abolished when the NDC regains power in 2021.
“When you look at the secondary school education, there are two things that are making the NPP panic and that is, abolishing of the double track and absorbing or involving private schools in the free SHS”.
According to the Member of the Education Committee, the educational body has met with the board of directors for private schools and have taken that into consideration.
The committee agreed on the modality rate of engaging the private school level in the free SHS program.
“There are about four thousand and thirty (4030) private school in this country, if you look at them carefully, the government can engage them very well that is those who met the requirement or qualify to participate in the free SHS that schools can absorb even over 180,000 student who are in the GREEN and GOLD tracks. Upon this, at a very lengthy level and their preparedness to involve themselves or engage government in it”. He said.
“…So we are saying, if you look at the private schools, the children who go there are children of the tax’s payers if the government are giving scholarship to someone attend public schools, why do not give that same scholarship or privilege to a Ghanaian for one reason or other who could not get place in the Public schools”. He made this known on Accra Based- Power FM
