The Leader and Presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (L.P.G), Mr. Kofi Akpaloo has added his voice to the call on checking the processes of electing parliamentary candidates in Ghana. He said if care is not taken, we will end up electing criminals who at that time will have enough money to buy votes from delegates.
He made this known this morning, on the Hottest Morning show “Anopa Bosuo” – with Kofi Asante Mensah on Green 88.5 FM. During the interview, he was asked if indeed he was the one who made those statements and he said yes if care is not taken, the future generation is going to suffer due to the infiltration of “Moneycracy” and vote-buying in our body politics.
This call came as a result of allegations of votes buying that characterized the just ended 2020 parliamentary elections of the New Patriotic Party. There were spots of votes buying raging from sharing bicycles, fridges, televisions, and the likes luring them into voting for them.
“People paid their way through becoming delegates and the parliamentary candidates also pay their way through to become aspirants and even their presidential candidates as well” – he added. He mentioned that these practices are very common with the two main political parties in Ghana, Thus the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.
During the NDC primaries, the Women’s Organizer, Madam Hannah Bissiw shared items ranging from Televisions, Microwaves, Fridges, and even Air Conditioners which were all shared among the various delegates. George Opare Addo, is alleged to have paid a lot of money before being elected as Youth Organizer of NDC, but Brogya Gyamfi lost because he couldn’t pay that much – He said.
He said, these politicians after spending all these monies, then come to power and find means to steal monies that belong to the state to enrich themselves. Mr. Kofi Akpaloo the two NCA bosses who have been found guilty of related offenses, and also the case of Venture Capital which is still in court as examples.
Suggesting solutions, he said that, every Ghanaian and every delegate should vote against every Aspirant who decides to engage in vote-buying. He further said that the police should also arrest perpetrators of the act. He added that the independent media houses like Green Fm and others can take up the call and propagate it.
